you have inflammation in your upper back area (rhumboids) When it swells it pulls on the ligaments that go up to your neck givin neck pain and headaches. I've had it for 3 yrs. I go get some cortisone/trypto. type shot in each muscle to help loosen it up. A shot about every 2 months.

You probably should see a chiropractor since it has been going on so long. I sometimes use a heating pad, but even though it usually makes me feel better, it isn't really a cure.

It depends on why you have the pain. Whether it was because of prior trauma, repetitive injuries, etc. Other questions like when it hurts, how long have you had it, what makes it feel better, what makes it feel worse, would also have to be answered. Chiropractic can typically help a great deal. Massage therapy is nice as well, but you should get it checked out by a chiropractor before hand.

I used to get those pains constantly and nothing I take would relieve the pain. ... you could try a self help hand workout it work for me. I found this book called"A Family Guide to Reflexology" it works like wonder.

Its a hand workout locating reflex point of your entire body.
For instance to work the shoulder: With your left thumb, apply pressure just below your pinky, edging forward with tiny creeping movements. (To contact reflex for the left shoulder repeat to the left hand).

Working the neck, thyroid, and throat: with your left thumb work the thyroid reflexes which form a ring around the base of the thumb. At the same time you are contacing the throat reflexes. By working the bases of the next 2 fingers, you relieve neck and shoulder tension. (Repeat on the left hand).

As far as seeing a professional I prefer the massage therapist over chiropractor because its probably just tension.
Hope that helps.

Yes, go see a chiropractor. Pain originating from the lower neck joints can radiate to the shoulder blades. A massage will feel good momentarily, but chiropractic correction will have a lasting effect.a chiropractor will help diagnose the problem like a medical doctor would, and a chiropractor can prescribe exercises or stretches to do at home. In the meantime, you can apply a hot-pack to the area to alleviate the pain.
