What could be causing my shoulder pain?

Around my shoulder area I get this dull pain. Not constant but frequent. Its random not when performing any particular activity it comes and goes. The pain itself appears to be internal, not on the surface. The doctor believes it is muscle pain but that seems odd to me as I cannot think of any activities that I have done that would cause this pain.
It is not caused by me sleeping on the shoulder. I do not sleep on it.

i had this and the only thing that cured it was going to the physiotherapist he told me what to do and gave me some elastic rubber thing to do exercises with ,and it eventually healed itself.so its worth a try
Muscle pain can occur from, sleeping funny, Holding your shoulder up in a weird way when washing, carrying heavy bags.
I would just put muscle relaxer on it before going to bed.
i’m a side sleeper and get shoulder pain quite often. using the computer mouse just aggravates it. so 2 possible causes!
If the pain continues I would let your doctor know. If is interfering with the work you do I would consider asking for a referral, and insist an x-ray be taken. You don’t say your age but it may be arthritis or bursitis. I would not let a doctor just dismiss me if I knew my body had changed. If you don’t know your body who would. And Tramadol is good, but not the answer for all Pain. God Bless And Hope you heal fast ReggieR
I’m sure there could be many reasons, but in my case it is due to some sort of RSI in the hand, which radiates up the arm. I eventually discovered that if I immobilise the middle 3 fingers say with a piece of piece of adhesive tape at the joints nearest the finger tips, then the pain vanishes almost straight away. HTH.
It could be caused from using your arm/shoulder in an awkward way. Or, you could have slept on it funny.
