I higly recommend a TOPICAL anesthetic. I use TIGER BALM and it works. But make sure to not get it in the place that is open from the operation.. obviously! Also maybe IcyHot? I really am not aware of any other over-the-counter pills other than paracetamol! Sorry!

As far as I am aware there are no other over the counter painkillers your father could use. You should speak to his Doctor about maybe co-proxamol. Or maybe a pain relieving gel.

Paracetamol is an acetominphen
It has proven to be an effective medication to relieve pain and it doesn't have some of the side effects of other pain meds.

It doesn't cause stomach problems like some of the other type pain medicines.
People that are allergic to other pain meds tolerate this one a lot better.

It is a good choice.

Don't try Advil if he's allergic to ibuprofen, for heaven's sake! Advil *is* ibuprofen. And Excedrin is paracetamol (acetaminophen). Sheesh.

The only other over-the-counter pain reliever I know of is naproxen sodium, which is sold in the US under the brand name Alleve. I don't know if it's even authorized for over-the-counter sale elsewhere. However, people who are allergic to ibuprofen and aspirin are often allergic to naproxen sodium as well. So it's probably either paracetamol or a prescription medicine.

Perhaps your dad should ask his doctor if there are any prescription NSAIDs that might work for someone with his allergy problems.
