I sit at a computer for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, my left shoulder and neck hurt extremely back – so much to the point that I can hardly do my job. Sometimes the pain is so bad that it will last even after i finish typing – other times the pain will subside shortly after I am done working. I can’t live like this anymore – is there anything i can do?!?!?!

yes, because of the profession. do…..massage the area.. take frequent breaks. do not use the phone while trying to multi task, as you lean more. blink frequently. stretch. make sure your work area is setup within reach for you. ie.computer/chair . if you feel a strain while reaching for something, dont…get up and get it.
check with a doctor, they may prescribe you to physical therapy…. let me tell you they work wonders!
You are sitting incorrectly. The monitor must be at eye level or just slightly below. Your feet must be flat on the floor. Your elbows must be at a 90 degree angle to the keyboard. There are ergonomic posters which should be available to you at work which shows the correct way to sit comfortably.
By making these adjustments in your sitting you won’t believe the improvement to your health.
Check out the website, it has good tips from the Dept of Labor.
foremost, i think you should check with a doctor. if your pain is caused by carpal tunnel syndrome and is not treated it can result in permanent nerve damage.
also you may check with your employer to see if there are any resources for worker safety or people who specialize in ergonomics. something as simple as changing your chair/desk/computer position could help relieve stress on your body.
