Shoulder pain, can't raise arm laterally?
Hello,
I am wondering if anyone out there can give me an idea as to what kind of shoulder condition/injury I am suffering from. I felt like there was some stiffness in my left ‘frontal’ shoulder area, and then today it really started hurting. When I try to lift my left arm ‘laterally,’ like doing lateral shoulder raises, it feels like a sharp pain and I can’t lift my arm. It also hurts badly when I try to an ‘arm wrestling’ move, with my left elbow at 90 degrees. The only way I can raise my left arm in order to remove my shirt is by lifting it straight up the front.
Can anyone tell me, based on these symptoms, what part of my shoulder is injured? The only thing I can think of doing a few weeks ago was a lot of pushups for exercise.
Thanks.

well…….sounds like the same type of injury I have in my shoulder…i hope not for your sake! I have tendonitis in 3 places in the fronts and towards my collor bone, then I have a torn rotator cuff in the back. My suggestion is to get treatmet asap….I waited way too long (years) and many bouts of physical theripy and countless injections later…I still deal with major pain daily….sleeping is one of the worse side effects…it is nearly impossible. Get it treated!!!!!!
go to an urgent care.
You may have stretched a tendon, where it attaches to a muscle. That will only exhibit pain when your arm is moved in a particular way. You might do well to immobilize the arm for several days to allow it to heal. The pain will go away eventually, provided you exercise common sense.
Sounds like it could possibly be a rotater cuff injury, sounds similar to my shoulder pain. I raise it over head until it audibly "pops". Still sore afterward but it frees it up to move. I suggest you go to the Doc and get an x-ray to be certain though. Hope this helps.
you need a operation because you most likely have a torn rota cuff and you should go and see your doctor as soon as poss-able if you don’t it may become worst and it will lead to general weakness and you won’t be able to golf or cricket or anyother sport involving the arms so don’t delay see your doctor
You don’t say how old you are or if you are doing some sort of sport or exercising where you could have injured your shoulder. It could be any of the above answers, or maybe some bursitis, which can have all the symptoms you have described. I agree that you should immobilize the shoulder and have a doctor check it out.
you may have a torn rotor cuff, it would be worth checking with you doctor who will order an x-ray or scan
