shoulder pain?
I’m a school teacher, and I’ve been experiencing excruciating shoulder pain. I just woke up one morning and felt a slight discomfort, so I just basically shrugged it off, believing that I just slept on it wrong. While I was decorating my room and putting up bulletin board paper, the pain became very sharp. It went on for a day and a half. Then I massaged it, and it went away. All of a sudden, the pain is back. Could this be a rotator cuff injury? If it is, I don’t know what could have caused it. I don’t do a lot of hard labor or play sports. Since this is the third day, I’m definitely seeing a doctor about this. Does anyone know if I could take some vitamins or supplements that could help my shoulder joint and muscles feel better?

It could be a rotator cuff injury, it could be just garden-variety bursitis/tendonitis, or it could be frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis). I had frozen shoulder two or three years ago and it was terrible!
I don’t think vitamin supplements would help but some people on my FS mailing list recommended B5, panothenic acid.
Try to gently stretch the shoulder out, move it around it’s entire range of motion. Don’t do it if it makes it hurt a lot more. But stretching it out seems to help. There’s also ‘passive stretching’, holding onto the end of a cane or something and then using the other hand to stretch your arm out.
Good luck!
i had rotator cuff injury and surgery (don’t do it!) and after pain meds ran out i started using tylenol arthritis and it works really well. lifting heavy object or an injury when you were a teenager can trigger it later in life.
Your pain originates in the neck.I’d suggest to see a chiropractor about this.
I can’t be sure until i have personally examined you and with what you’ve described your pain could be from a number of things, muscle, tendon, joint, nerve etc. i would suggest seeing a physical therapist. ask your doc for a referral if your state requires a referral for physical therapy. i am reluctant to say it’s a tear because you haven’t mentioned any trauma to your shoulder, but your doc will probably do some imaging(MRI) if he suspects a rotator cuff tear, or he’ll do it just to rule it out. If there is no immediate need for surgery i suggest a conservative physical therapy approach. we are the movement experts and are specifically trained in treating the musculoskeletal system and that includes painful shoulders!! good luck! Thank you for doing such a thankless job! Teachers are my heroes! that is probably so sappy, but it’s true!
