shoulder/ arm pain?

every minute or so, a shooting pain occurs in my arm and shoulder. it is very painful and annoying. does anyone have any ideas?

If it is your left shoulder/arm , it could easily be pain from your heart, lungs, or diaphragm because they all "refer" pain to the left side. If it is your heart, you will notice it in your left shoulder, the inside of your left arm, and in the middle of your back (between the shoulder blades). I’m probably being too cautious, but it’s something to consider.
have you injured it while playing sport or something? perhaps heavy lifting? can you provide a bit more detail.
pinched nerve…try some stretching of upper body, take a hot long bath in Epsom salts, try sleeping on your stomach not that side
