Do you have high blood pressure or a family history of heart problems. I know this sounds like a stretch but pain in the left shoulder is often a symptom of heart issues (look up the symptoms of a heart attack).

The only reason I throw this out there is because you mentioned your whole body tightening up which makes it a little suspicious.

I mean, I may be wayyyy off here. I don't know what exactly you are feeling and it may just be a nerve issue but I felt the need to mention that because the consequences of missing something like that can be so serious.

If you have some of the qualifiers for heart disease or something, I would have the doctor run some heart tests.

Hopefully, it's just some quirky nerve thing.

I believe what you might be experiencing is called encapsulation it occurs when the muscle that lays over your shoulder blade gets pinched underneath, i get it usually when i sleep on the effected side. in bad cases the pain could last up to three days. some other problems could be ;

Frozen shoulder, or adhesive capsulitis, is a condition that causes restriction of motion in the shoulder joint. The cause of a frozen shoulder is not well understood, but it often occurs for no known reason. Frozen shoulder causes the capsule surrounding the shoulder joint to contract and form scar tissue.

Bursitis | Rotator Cuff Tendonitis
The most common diagnosis in patients with shoulder pain is bursitis or tendonitis of the rotator cuff.

Rotator Cuff Tear
Rotator cuff tears occur when the tendons of the rotator cuff separate from the bone. Surgery is sometimes necessary for this condition.

Hope this helps!!
