Neck/shoulder pain after raising my arm?

This has been an off and on problem since i was 15. I’m 27 now. Sometimes while I have my arms above my head, such as when washing my hair or such, I get a sudden shooting pain in my neck or shoulders, which then persists for a few days as a dull pain, then shooting if I move a certain way, I can’t turn my neck or straighten my neck. Nothing makes it better, massage, over the counter pain reliever, muscle relaxers, nothing. Any ideas?

Hi, well I’m not a doctor but it sounds like you could have a pinched nerve I have had these before in my lower back and until they are corrected the pain will always be there. I have corrected mine with a chiropractor services, but some situations that are worse have to be corrected with medication and this . I hope this helped you a little. Thank you,Robin Pier
There are a number of things that could be causing this, but my mother had a torn roto cuff that caused similar issues. She had to have surgery to repair it.
The roto is in your shoulder and apparently not that hard to tear. It’s actually pretty common. She tore hers when she slipped and fell on ice, but I know others that have done so playing sports or horsing around.
You should have it examined and probably an x-ray since it’s an ongoing problem for you.
click on this and it will at least tell you possible causes and what can be done. Good luck
