Has anybody had relief from Acapuncture for a torn tendon in the shoulder?

I have had three Cortisone injections. Nothing worked. I have been advised that the operation may or may not be successful. Either way it is a long time before the arm can again be used if ever.I am clutching at straws here for pain relief. Any suggestions ?
Thank you Skepdoc, for your input. I am not the sort of person who responds to suggestion. I am a realist I know pain.Are you saying therefore there is no hope with the acupuncture ?

The beauty of acupuncture is that if it works you know straight away. It works for as many people as it does not work for (my brother swears by it and says it gives him some relief from his pain. When I have tried it, it has had no effect on me whatsoever). You can also try electro stimulation or magnets. Again if it works then it works quickly, if not then try something else.
PS. If you are going to be on pain meds for any length of time, make sure you eat plenty of fruit and vegetables and drink lots of water as constipation is a very common side effect and is best avoided.

There really is no good scientific evidence that acupuncture works any better than placebo (ie fake) acupuncture.
The placebo effect has plausible , scientific, biochemical explanation (autologous opioids responding to sharp needles placed near nerve endings) We know the placebo effect is real, because if we inject people with Narcan (an ‘antidote’ to opioids) the placebo effect won’t work.
Acupuncture has no plausible explanation but instead requires one to accept an undetectable kind of energy (chi) flows through undetectable channels (miridians) and can alter health in unexplained ways.
The parsimony principle, or Occams’ razor, suggests choosing the simplest explanation, which is the one that requires you to make the fewest unproven assumptions.
Your choice. But since in carefully controlled studies, it has no greater effect than placebo, it most likely works through the placebo effect, enhanced by expectation, and the positive reinforcement of an enthusiastic practitioner.
I wouldnt think it would help…think about it..you have a mechanical/physical tear…acupuncture is thought to help release chemicals in our bodys to reduce pain etc…it may do this a little ..but its not going to physically repair the tear
