Does Acupuncture really work for pain relief?
I have this shoulder that is bung. Doc said I need to upgrade it to plastic but un the interim I should have 6 courses of cortesone injections guided by ultrasound…. So I dont like that idea very much …. and the plastic shoulder reconstruction is just unacceptable given my tender young age of mid 40.. and I still want to workout at the gym so if I speed up the wear on my shoulder, so what.. at least I can use it except for the pain… which is where acupuncture comes in…
Does acupuncture really work? Like I can appreciate that sterio music headphones make your mind think the sound is coming from the middle of your head… so it is logical that if someone sticks 3 pins in your right leg and 32 pins in your left shoulder often enough you are going to start thinking that the pain in your shoulder isnt too bad… and pain managememt is physchological right? or wrong?

i had orthoscopic surgery for my shoulder. i had a tear and some other stuff. accupunture helped some. i had it done for neck pain from some buldging disks and the pain went away immediately but, a few days later the pain returned but, it was great for me. my ems instructor had his shoulder replaced also but with surgical steel and i had surgery so i can feel ur pain. it’s not cool in the least. as per the shots…i’ve never heard of them using sonogram to put them in. 6 shots ? that sounds too excessive. sounds like u can use a 2nd opinion to be on the safe side. those shots have lots of side effects.
you should only get 1 a month. after 3 shots…i was done…it was torcher…and i gave in for surgery. good luck. and don’t pop too many pain meds…u’ll get addicted fast, especially if they gave you percocet, oxycodone or vicodin. go with the accupuncture and see how it goes until suregry. i’ll pray for you…and btw: get the nerve block. it’ll block the pain for about 3 days. i didn’t get it and once i awoke from surgery i was a screaming mad woman. and they all said i should’ve gotten the nerve block. so they gave me morphin for the pain and almost died in recovery. i was allergic and never kneew it since i never had that med before. i stopped breathing 6 times.
because pain is subjective, each person experiences it in a different way. if you are looking for a non medication alternative, consider acupuncture. it may work for you.
Yes, it is now an accepted practice in western medicine.
not for some of my friends
but it does for me
yes it does it helpe me when i tryed it and it will work for you
My grandma had acupuncture for several monthes and while is did a little bit to make her pain stop it was not worth the money charged for her to continue. I think it helped a little bit though. I also beleive every person is very different and so different things work well for some people and not at all for others.
acupuncture isn’t merely psychological….
Your body has certain known points(meridians) in which energy(chi) flows through.
the idea is, if you have pain in your shoulder that means chi isn’t getting there for some reason(pinched nerve….muscle damage) Acupuncture mixed with lomi-lomi or different types of therapeutic massage and herbs that could help that certain part of your body regenerate on it’s own, is the most natural way to let your body heal itself……. but, it will likely take a little time and effort depending on seriousness of the injury… you should just talk with someone reputable who practices Chinese medicine.
I would recommend it…. over most* western medicine practices
